Why is that the MTA keeps increasing the fare prize and people just take it?
The subway system offers one of the worst services around the world, it is extremely crowded, every train has to go through Manahattan, rats run in the platforms like animals in a zoo or an exhibition, homeless are all over the place and New Yorkers in general have the nasties attitude ever. Even saying a simple good morning is offensive.
Well I agree with some of what you say. First of all, don’t be so quick to condemn the subway system of NY. We take if for granted because we use it every day, but do you realize that in some cities it closes after a certain hour? I bet at three in the morning when you want to get home you’re thankful that it’s still running. Plus, it’s way more extensive than some cites. There is over 722 miles of track in the NYC subway system. In other words, if you laid all that track end to end it would reach to Chicago!
Now about those fare hikes. It’s not like no one says anything and we just take it. There are organizations in place, like the Straphangers Association that constantly puts pressure on the MTA to improve service and maintain fares. They aren’t always successful, but their voice is always heard. You may have heard the expression “you can’t fight City Hall” well guess what. It’s not true. People right here in NYC have fought and won!
